The following article relating to the Showboat Parade appeared in the Herald Sun, November 13th 1951.

One of the biggest cheers went to the boys and girls of the Victoria Banjo Club, who staged an old time minstrel show.

They were on a huge “Showboat”, complete with paddle wheels of blazing blossom that churned over in a sea of blue pansies.

Essendon’s ambitious exhibit brought envious groans. Among its flowers could be seen a triangle of luscious, large, tender looking POTATOES.

The parade finished in Lansdowne Street, between the Treasury and Fitzroy Gardens. There the floats will be floodlit until late this evening.
